1. Q. How do I know that I am a good candidate for natural hair extensions?
A. If your goal is to obtain length, volume, texture or to add “high or low-lights” to prevent damage to your real hair, then you are a candidate. Also, if your hair is thinning beyond what is exceptable to you, you will be a great candidate. I personally fall into the “thinning” category, and am extremely happy with the hair extension results: longer, fuller, wavier, healthier-looking hair. I do believe that a woman’s hair reflects her spirit!

2. Q. How long can I expect the hair extensions to last?
A. Approximately between 3-5 months. On occsasion, you might have an extension “fall out”. This will not be, however, on a daily basis, providing the extension was properly attached and, providing, the client follows the prescribed “home maintanence procedure,” which will be clearly explained to you.

3. Q. What must I do at home to maintain and manage my hair extensions?
A. To maintain the integrity of your natural and extended hair, I recommend the following: 1) To brush your hair 2-3 times-daily with a special “loop brush” that I can provide. This brush, unlike a standard brush, will not tug and weaken the bond attachment. Instead, it will stimulate the scalp and prevent tangling at the base. 2) Use special hair extension shampoos, conditioners on a regular basis because, unlike other shampoos, these do not contain lanolin, silicon or glycerine. These ingredients will cause premature slippage of the bond.

4. Q. Can I let my hair air-dry or must I blow it dry??
A. You must blow dry hair extensions, regardless of the texture. Why? Moisture buildup on the Keratin tips will result in oxidation, which will turn the tips white.

5. Q. Can I use styling products in my hair following the hair extention application?
A. Absolutely! Natural hair extensions are treated as your natural hair. Even the artificial hair extensions, which I don’t recommend, are product-friendly.

6. Q. Can I continue coloring or highlighting my hair when I have hair extensions?
A. Yes you can. However, your stylist must understand that the color must not touch or penetrate the bond to avoid weakening the structure. This could lead to the bond disattaching sooner than it might otherwise.
Regarding both color and highlighting your natural hair regrowth, the stylist can follow the normal procedures. BUT, do not attempt to highlight the extension hair ..period. The extension pieces can, however, be “darkened” only 2 shades, using ONLY demi/semi permanent color; 5/10/15 volume peroxides — not 20-volume and over.

8. Q. Where does the hair used for human hair extensions come from?
A. The primary source of human hair, referred to as Indian Remy hair is from India. The term “Remy” is used to describe superior hair because the cuticle lays in one direction, which prevents matting and tangling. Indian Remy hair , unlike Chinese or other Asian hair-types, is the most desirable virgin hair because it has been protected and never chemically treated.
Remy hair, also called “temple hair”, has its unique story: According to Indian custom, at the time of marriage, the soon-to-be-wife’s” hair is cut at close range to the nape and given to the fiancé. He, then, takes the hair to a temple to be blessed so that he may have fathered many sons, live a prosperous life and be provided with a good working helpmate. The temple, in turn, sells the hair to “buyers” and uses the proceeds to fund community needs.
Other sources of human hair include China and Mongolia, referred to as “Yak” hair because of the course texture. Russian hair has, also, become popular.

10. Q. Will the hair extension tips cause damage to my hair?
A. No, if properly applied. However, breakage can occur if the extensions are left on too long, possibly resulting in the client’s natural hair winding around the glue tip and breaking off. This is certainly avoidable.
